Pyjama Storytime This Friday!

Okay my friends, pull out your PJs, robes, and slippers because it’s Pyjama Storytime again!!

This Friday, January 20th at 6:30PM, I will be holding a PJ storytime for all kids and their parents. We will have a great time playing games, singing songs, and reading bedtime stories. So, bundle up, grab your stuffies and come join the fun! Drop-in, no registration required for this FREE program!!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that 2011 is gone and 2012 is here. I hope everyone had a great holiday. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at Storytime tomorrow, and I am working hard at planning some fun activites for this new year.

Here are a couple of new events you can look forward to on a regular basis. There will be a Pyjama Storytime every third Friday of each month that will run from 6:30-7:30PM. There will also be a Puppet Play Storytime at 11:00AM every fourth Saturday. So Friday, January 20 will be our first 2012 PJ Storytime, and Saturday, January 28 will be the first Puppet Play Storytime of the year. I look forward to seeing you all there!

Gordon Korman in French!

Did you know that Gordon Korman is the favorite author of many young Canadians? (He’s a particular favorite of boys.) His humour is timeless, and his stories are truly entertaining.

Now all of Korman’s fans can enjoy his books in French! Piege de Gordon Korman can be found on the shelve in the Junior French section.

Geronimo Stilton

Just this past weekend, one of you asked me if we had any Geronimo Stilton books in the library. We didn’t at the time…BUT… now we do! In today and on our shelves is The Amazing Voyage: The Third Adventure in the Kingdom of Fantasy. Come quick before it flies off the shelf!

Busy Day

Counting Fun

Do you like bears? What about Gummi Bears? How about counting? Well, Barbara Barbieri McGrath’s book, Teddy Bear Counting is just right for you. This book came in new to the Salmon Arm branch today. Look for it on the shelves, and have fun counting al those bright, yummy Gummi Bears!

Things have been so busy here at the library, that I have neglected to thank Landon Colvin for coming to Salmon Arm and sharing his book Spirit Wolf with us. Landon’s presentation was fantastic! He showed great poise and charm as he told us about his book and read excerpts from it. Thank you to all who came and participated in this event, and thank you to Landon for being such a great guest!!

Storytime 2012

Pyjama Storytime and Puppet Plays

Thank you everyone for making our Puppet Play and Pyjama storytimes such a success!! We had a marvelous turn out and so much fun. Unfortunately, our camera could not be found in time to take pictures of the events. However, our local reporters were here taking pictures, so keep your eyes peeled for photos in the papers.

Calling All Young Writers and Poets!

For Book Week 2012 there will be a writing contest for kids and teens. Here’s what the flyer says:

“The book Week 2012 Writing Contest for Kids & Teens invites young writers to let their imaginations soar and share their stories or poems of adventure, humour mystery and fantasy!

“Students from Grades 4 to 12 are eligible to enter and one winner from each grade will receive a $250 gift certificate to the bookstore of his or her choice!

“Writing entries will be posted on the Book Week website www.bookweek.ca.”

Here are the contest details:

Entries must be postmarked by February 1, 2012
The story or poem must be written during the current 2011/2012 school year.
Entrants must be in Grades 4 to 12 at the time of the contest deadline.
Entries must be written in English and must not exceed 1,500 words.
All entries must be original content.
All entries must include a fully complete ENTRY FORM. The form is available at http://www.bookweek.ca/ under “Book Week 2012″.
No Faxed or emailed entries will be accepted.
Due to the large volume of entries, we cannot acknowledge receipt of entry.
Contest open to residents of Canada only.
