Making plans for the summer?

Don’t forget to attend the awesome events coming to Salmon Arm Branch this summer.

Launch Party   Tuesday, July 5 at 1:00 PM

Come dressed as a character from a book for a chance to win a prize. Additional prizes will be awarded for the Library Quiz and party games. This is a great opportunity to pick up the schedule of upcoming events, and everyone who registers for SRC will receive free pizza.

 My Father’s Dragon    Wednesdays at 11:00 AM

Every week Stephanie will read a chapter of My Father’s Dragon out loud. This is a grade four level book, but with puppets, and props kids of any age will enjoy it. You won’t want to miss a week.

 Book Club                         Wednesdays at 1:00 PM

Come discuss what you’ve been reading. Learn about great books from others, and have a chance to discuss your favourites.

 Science Centre                 Tuesday July 12 – 1:00 and 2:30 PM 

Use simple machines (levers, pulleys, wheels, inclined planes) to accomplish a challenge and solve a problem!

Maximum 30 kids per session, so please register!

 Magnet Madness             Tuesday, July 19 at 1:00 PM

Older kids/tweens:

make your own magnets out of magazines and comics. The supplies will be provided, but if you have small images you would like to use feel free to bring them. Great for your locker, mirror or fridge.

Younger Kids:

Make foam magnets of dinosaurs, monsters, or whatever you like. Supplies will be provided.

Use the clues hidden around the library to solve a mystery.

WORDS Run Wild At The Library!

Listen as story-master Tom McCormack brings an assortment of colourful dialoguing characters to life through theatrical storytelling, poetry, music and ballad. Plus, experience an exciting Word-play song and A-Z letter dance…. while McCormack weaves in live music

 Board Game Tournament      Tuesday, August 9 at 1:00 PM

Show off your logic, language skills or luck for a chance to win prizes. Games such as Scrabble, Syllables, Chess, Checkers, Chinese checkers, UNO and Cranium will be provided to play in the library.

 Today Was A Fairy Tale          Tuesday, August 16 at 1:00 PM

Listen to Stephanie read some new twists on classic fairy tales. Make your own princess or knight with recycled material provided.

 Dinomite Swamp                     Tuesday, August 23 at 1:00 PM

See some cool fossils, listen to dinosaur stories and make a craft.

 Plant Bullies                     Tuesday, August 23 at 1:30 PM

Paul Goodkey, Noxious Weed Inspector will present about invasive plants

 Pirate Party                      Tuesday, August 30at 1:00 PM

Work in teams to complete a treasure hunt, compete in a tinfoil boat contest, and make a pirate craft. Plus listen to a pirate tale while enjoying some fruit. Medals will be awarded to those who completed their reading records.

  1. My son will be at Gardon Lake Bible camp for the July 5th launch…the dates conflict every year it seems sigh… He asked if he could be a part of the summer reading club…can he attend other days to follow? Sandy

    • Absolutely. He is welcome to join any time in July or August. He can get a registration package at the circulation desk and attend any events that don’t conflict with his camp. The more events he attends the more chance he has of winning prizes but no one has to come to everything.
